As CCAPSA, Inc., it is part of our prevention work to address the opioid crisis within Cobb County. Recently released statistics have stated that over 120 people died from opioids in 2021, and Cobb County has continued to have a higher rate of opioid deaths than the entire state of Georgia since 2016! Yes, that is the bad news… but there is some good news! Despite these disparaging facts, our messages and mission are now being heard more and more! Introduced as public health leaders in the community, our community partner, Mrs. Stacey O’Shields, our partners at Cobb & Douglas Public Health, and ourselves have been featured in an article about addressing the opioid crisis! More coverage of what we do and the information we release regarding the harms of the misusing and abusing of substances increases awareness to the problem, and hopefully inspires others to join us in being a part of the solution–specifically when it comes to the efforts to make Naloxone more accessible to reverse overdoses. This is the good news!
